One of the things we’re starting to find from ou One of the things we’re starting to find from our out-of-state guests is they want to use Sainte Geneviève as a hub for more far-flung day adventures. If you don’t know, this area of Missouri is part of the Ozarks and features some incredible river gorges we like to call “shut-ins.” There are nearly 20 shut-ins within an hour and a half from Sainte Geneviève and all of them make for great hiking and swimming.

In some places, like nearby Robinson Bluff, the gorge walls have been fitted for a total of 11,981 feet of climbing with a vast array of difficulty. We contracted Jim with Vertical Voyages out of St. Louis to provide some gear and guide us through a lovely day of climbing. Then, we scooted back to the comfort and quiet of Ste. Gen to nurse our sore muscles and get a relaxing night’s sleep.

Another Jour de Fête is in the books! Although it Another Jour de Fête is in the books! Although it’s generally hot, it doesn’t stop folks from bringing the streets of Sainte Geneviève to life. Thousands of people pour into town, some of which grew up here and are making their annual homecoming. All of them coming in to take part in the oldest craft fair in Missouri. Or maybe it’s gambling on the duck races that brings them in, who knows?

Don’t miss the chance to see him at this “Pappy and Harriet’s of the Midwest” — a rising venue still unknown enough to be cool.

Late summer in Sainte Geneviève. Not much going o Late summer in Sainte Geneviève. Not much going on, but that’s kind of the point.

Have you ever visited?
Sainte Geneviève’s biggest weekend is back! Jo Sainte Geneviève’s biggest weekend is back!

Jour de Fête is Sainte Geneviève’s number one event, hands down. It’s the one festival we can count on filling the streets with locals and out-of-towners alike. On the surface, it looks like you’re witnessing a normal craft fair, but to the town, it’s a homecoming. Family who have moved away fly back just for this. Backyards light up with activity and the sound of tops being popped. At every major hangout spot, you can find yourself in conversation with a Rozier or a Valle or an Oberle or a myriad of French or German families that have built and preserved what this town boasts. In fact, some of the most precious parts of this festival come from the highlighting of this heritage. Project Pioneer honors one German and one French family for their contribution to Sainte Geneviève. So, when you’re out and about filling bags with cute trinkets, take a deeper look into the community. It’s a major part of why we’ve coined, “There’s something special here!”

One thing we hang our hat on in Sainte Geneviève One thing we hang our hat on in Sainte Geneviève is being a tight-knit community of people who really care. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better example of this in a business than American Custard out near River Rapids Waterpark. They put a ton of love into everything they do, from the squeaky clean restaurant, to their Ted Drewes-esque concretes, down to hand-making all the dips and dressings for their creations. Whether you’re looking for a burger, a shrimp po’boy, or just a good solid salad, you won’t find a bad option here!

Another unforgettable weekend at the 2025 Ste. Gen Another unforgettable weekend at the 2025 Ste. Genevieve County Fair!

As always, it was a true slice of American pie. From the roar of the tractor pull and the bone-crunching action of the demolition derby to the flower-petal sweetness of the 4H livestock show, the beauty queen competitions, and the petting zoo, it is easy to see why this event is held right after the Fourth of July. It is the kind of weekend that makes you proud to be American.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support the community, cheer on participants, and enjoy the food, games, and entertainment. We are already looking forward to next year!
