Shopping
Unique shopping in a very walkable downtown.
Ste. Genevieve gets a lot of comparisons to the fabled Mayberry. It’s cute as can be and it’s a safe experience. That’s why you see mostly women traversing the streets on the weekends. You don’t have to keep your guard up around here, and there’s a lot to be said for peace of mind. It can be truly relaxing and invigorating. There’s even adult babysitting at Dannie’s Sports Tavern, The Anvil Saloon, and Audubon’s Biergarten. All are great places to drop a whiny husband who isn’t built for shopping.
It’s a great place to purchase gifts, ooh and ahh over people’s gardens, and dream about what the interior of some of the downtown estates look like on the inside. There are quintessential spots, like your mystical crystal spot, Lavender Moon, your creative one-offs, like Louie’s Smokin’ Hot, for cigars, hot sauces, and infused olive oils, and even your rare only-in-Ste. Gen, ASL Pewter, owned by 18th-century pewter designers Tom and Pat Hooper. There’s no shortage of places to eat and hydrate in-between, and as an added bonus, you can get your steps in.
