Coffee, Pastries, Breakfast Bites About Birdies:  Nicole is a local Sainte Genevièvan whose mission is to serve a great cup of coffee.  Incidentally, she also serves a great matcha as well as some serious baked goods.  Of these, the homemade oatmeal cream pie is a staple that is hard to pass up with its flawless execution.  It’ll send a shiver of nostalgia through your tongue.  Before it was Birdies, this location has long been a coffee shop that hung its hat on quick and satisfying breakfast nibbles.  Nicole has made her own spin on the menu, offering a breakfast fried rice that is a real nice wake-me-up and egg bites that pack just the right amount of protein. The menu of specialty coffee changes with the seasons and is always bringing the creativity.  The best thing is you can always count of the quality of the coffee (or matcha) taking center stage. Coffee, Pastries, Breakfast, Lunch About Common Grounds:  Common Grounds is another unique community story that will give you the fuzzies thinking about Sainte Geneviève.  It’s a coffee house that employs special needs individuals, giving them the feeling of independence while giving the customers smiles.  And it’s due in large part to one man: Major Jason Schott of the Ste. Genevieve Sherriff’s Department.  Major Schott is a big part of Ste. Genevieve’s movement towards inclusion for folks with special needs, spearheading efforts to set our community apart by building an all-inclusive playground at Progress Sports Complex, Challenger Field, an all-inclusive soft-ball field at the same site, expanding the scope of Ste. Genevieve’s Independence Center made to help adults with special needs become more independent, and last but not least, starting Common Grounds in downtown Sainte Geneviève. The result of the effort to create Common Grounds has given this town a consistent place to get good coffee, breakfast, and lunch throughout the week.  They serve various coffees and hot beverages as well as pastries, quiches, wraps, salads, and light sandwiches. Fast Food About McDonald’s: We all know the storied fast-food chain, especially the ones peppered across cities and suburbs of the Greater U.S.  Ste. Gen’s is a bit different.  It’s more akin to something you’d find in Europe, molding to the tastes of the locals.  It’s mentioned in the heading on our Breakfast and Coffee page, but you can get a basket of fries and a meal that features two filet o’ fish and a basket of fries.  The inside is more of a lounge, the atmosphere is relaxed, your meal is delivered to your table and you’re always greeted with a smile.  It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s different enough to be notable.  I guess you could say there’s something special here, even at our McDonald’s.
