Kaskaskia Island, IL Off of Highway U Near St. Mary, MO Kaskaskia Island’s sloughs and ponds are a Mecca for water birds. Birders flock to this area. Birds can be viewed along most roads on the island. Herons, egrets, ducks, and stray whooping cranes are often seen here near the Middle Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge. May 20-21, 2023 The Ste. Geneviève Master Gardeners’ annual Garden Walk is held in the downtown historic district the weekend following Mother’s Day. It is a unique opportunity to tour private and public gardens. Several gardens are part of historic homes in Ste. Geneviève and are typical of the 18th-century time period.
